0400 Hours Harare Municipality Police Raid & Burning Of Vendors Wares On Speke Avenue footbridge

The Harare city council  war against vendors was stepped up a gear, after  a variety of vendors wares, such as blankets, shoes, clothing bales and electronic goods  on the Speke Avenue footbridge, went up in flames in scenes reminiscent of the Zanu PF 2005 Murambatsvina clean up operation after, Harare municipality police, at    0400 hours this morning raided the storage and  set everything alight.

Goods valued at thousands of dollars were lost in the vicious and uncompromising  dawn raid, which follows the Thursday’s arrests of vendors who were resisting removal from their now deemed  illegal trading points in the urban  Harare Municipality area.

The Zanu PF regime, is traditionally known for throwing out of the window all human rights, when it comes to forced  evictions,  destruction of property and forcing people into unemployment or loss of livelihood, and this week, the Harare municipal police did not disappoint, yet again, when they  destroyed market stalls and  reportedly stole vendors’ goods, in  a climate shaped by Mugabe’s Zanu PF regime’s failure to deliver on its infamous ‘Nikuv’ election manifesto  in which  Zanu PF promised to create 2 265 million jobs over their five year tenure,  promises which have turned out to be nothing more than a load of hot air.

This latest shocking disregard for people’s interests and dignity is the latest in the relentless downward spiral towards rock bottom public relations by government and is, typically, an ignition source for  absolute defiance by members of the public to oppressive authority,…..now we wait!    By Sibusiso Ngwenya.
