Two years after raping his brother’s seven year old daughter, a 43 year old Harare vendor has been jailed for 12 years.

The rapist had not pleaded guilty to two counts of rape but was convicted.

“The accused has caused a rift in the family and the complainants parents can even divorce through the relations that have been strained by the accused’s behaviour.

“The age difference of 35 years between the convict and victim exacerbated the sentence,” said magistrate Fadzai Mthombeni.

The convict raped the girl in 2013 and threatened to assault her if she revealed the matter to anyone.
