200 Driver’s licences cancelled and 32 Vehicle Inspectorate Departments officers from 13 (VID) fired for corruption.

Zimbabwe’s Vehicle Inspectorate Departments (VID) depots in Zimbabwe are known to be rock beds of corruption with numerous full and provisional licences issued under questionable circumstances to undeserving individuals who may not be present in the country or at the depot and even if they are present, are not the people who actually take the tests meaning, …money talks!.
A  total of 32 officers spread across 13 Vehicle Inspectorate Departments (VID) depots in Zimbabwe, have been fired by the Zimbabwe government.
The government also cancelled 200 driver’s and provisional licences  which were issued under corrupt circumstances nationwide.
Zimbabwe’s Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Joram Gumbo announced that Vehicle Inspectorate Departments (VID) depots will eventually be automated in order to curb the rampant corruption in  the department.

Minister Gumbo was responding to a question in Parliament on Wednesday on the measures his ministry had put in place to curb corruption at the VID.

VID Corruption was unearthed at  13 VID depots which are ,  Belvedere, Chitungwiza, Eastlea,Mutare, Chiredzi, Gweru, Victoria Falls, Bindura, Kadoma,  Marondera, Zvishavane, Nyamapanda, Chinhoyi  identified as having corruptly allocated a total of 199 drivers and provisional licences .

 

The government also believes that its policy of rotating or transferring VID officers evry three-years will curb corruption as it ensures that officers do not become complacent and over familiar with a location and locals. By Sibusiso Ngwenya
