2015 Festive Season Road Death Toll Is 130

One hundred and thirty people were killed during the festive season in road traffic accidents, 28 more than the number recorded during the same period the preceding year.

This past festive season has been one of the bloodiest in recent times.

Police statistics recorded between December 15 2015 and January 2nd 2016 indicate that the number of fatalities increased by 28 compared with the same period between 2014 and 2015.

ZRP chief police spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba says most fatal accidents were as a result of human error such as speeding, misjudgement, not paying attention and negligent passengers and pedestrians.

Tyre bursts are also a factor.

Police say they will continue to enforce the rules of the road, in the same vein warning commuter omnibus drivers not to disregard human life through dangerous driving such as along pavements and against traffic among other misdemeanours. –
