UPDATE:CHRISTIANS TARGETED-290 DEAD 500 injured in 8 blasts, targeting churches and hotels in Sri Lanka, in second deadliest militant attack since independence.


At least eight blasts are reported to have been set off, targeting churches and hotels in Sri Lanka, with three churches in Negombo, Batticaloa and Colombo’s Kochchikade district hit during Easter services. It is also reported that the Shangri-La, Kingsbury, Cinnamon Grand and a fourth hotel, all in Colombo, were also hit.
This was a coordinated attack against Christian worshipers designed to cause maximum damage on Christians who were gathered in celebration of Easter time in commemoration of the death and resurection of Jesus Christ.


The death toll currently includes nine children, after a suicide bomber targeted a campaign rally in Mastung, in an attack claimed by the Islamic State (IS) in the south-western province of Balochistan, on Friday. According to the Dutch Foreign minister, one Dutch person was among the 207 people killed in Sri Lanka. 5 British nationals have been killed and there are three Denmark nationals and several US nationals who were killed in the attack.


The nation is due to hold a general election on 25 July 2019 in a violence marred election . According to independant observers, there is a crackdown on political activists, journalists and critics of the powerful military.
A curfew from 18:00 to 06:00 local time (12:30-00:30 GMT) has been imposed and so far, a total of seven arrests have been made by authorities.
