ABANDONED CHINESE SPACE STATION TIANGONG-1 a manned space craft, which had been in orbit since 2011, and abandoned in 2016 broke up on re entry on 1April as it fell into the South Pacific sea.

An abandoned Chinese Space station which had been in orbit since 2011 finally broke apart at 8:16pm on 1April 2018 and fell into the South Pacific sea. In 2016 the Chinese space agency, abandoned its manned mission and advised the UN that it had lost control of its space station.

The space station was reported recently to be falling back to earth but no one could predict where it would land.

The 8,500 kg space ship entered the earths lower atmosphere in its descent and was orbiting earth at over 17, 500miles an hour before it broke up over the South Pacific sea and fell into unpopulated sea area with no injuries

The speed is not that important as the space stations orbit 230 nautical miles above the Earth, and travel around earth , while in orbit, at a speed of about 17,500 miles (28,000 kilometers) per hour. For those in the space station, the speed is normal and they do not feel it but due to this speed , the crew can see a sunrise or sunset every 45 minutes. Its basically how you feel where you are, remember earth is moving about our sun in a very nearly circular orbit at a speed of nearly 30 kilometers per second, or 67,000 miles per hour, but you don’t feel it,..science! lol.

Most of earth is covered by water so the risk of falling over a populated area was always going to be low. More news to follow. By Sibusiso Ngwenya
