ACCIDENT- Harare Seke Road fly over accident.

Harare Seke Road fly over accident. This is a developing story. Whilst we are yet to confirm what happened, it is almost obvious that the accident was a result of driving without due care by the haulage driver, who did not observe height restrictions generally posted along roads as one approaches abridge all the way to the bridge itself. The driver also would have had no knowledge of his vehicles height, commonly marked in each cab. In such an accident, there is absolutely no excuse because the driver is totally at fault for being so irresponsible and attempting to drive through a low bridge where his vehicle could not go through

There are several issues to consider here starting from injuries to cyclists, pedestrians, his own passengers and drivers and occupants of other vehicles including the homeless and disabled who sleep under the bridge. The drivers irresponsibility has endangered the public and his employers and police should check with the VID to ensure he holds a licence, is licenced to drive the vehicle and holds the minimum required experience to drive such a vehicle.

The company should be charged for all damage to the bridge and street furniture as striking the bridge may have rendered it unusable. The company should be made to feel the cost of their careless driver doing this. Company owner must face corporate responsiblity charges and if need be as in the western world, Managers or owners can be chrged and jailed for such accidents by those under them.

If you are a parent and your child walks under this bridge to or from school daily, or you are acyclist or pedestrian who uses that route or someone who sells their vegetables or wares under the bridge or lives under it, this level of dangerous driving would have shocked you and you would rightly expect the driver to be arrested. There is absolutely no excuse for such an accident. The driver should simply have applied his common sense and stopped in time if there were no clear height restrictions because it wasn’t safe to take agamble and proceed without adequate information. The driver was negligent and should be banned from ever handling such a vehicle if he fails to negotiate safely past bridges,…if one is not sure,..STOP!

If you are a vehicle driver, imagine how traumatising it is to now think every high vehicle driver may not know the impact of driving their vehicles under bridges without familiarising themselves with vehicle and bridge heights…shocking irresponsibility by the company! Such companies must be identified, such accidents must be made public through social and mainstream media and customers must abandon any purchases or business dealings with such companies,..hit them where it hurts the most, boycott their products and services! ……more news to follow.
