Beitbridge Road And Shops Closed As Residents Protest Against Zimra’s Ban On Imports From South Africa.
Early this morning, protesters went on the rampage in Beitbridge Block the border road and the majority of shops were closed throughout the drama as shop owners feared looting by protestors.
The Beitbridge border post was sealed off as, at the same time, thousands of Zimbabwean and foreign business people including Ethiopians and Asians walked the 12 km distance from Musina to the border but were denied entry on the South African side of the border by South African Authorities, there by ending their attempt to reach the Zimbabwean side in protest against the ban on imports from South Africa by the Zimbabwean government.
The Zimbabwean government enacted statutory instrument no 64 of 2016 to ban imports of basic items such as household goods, food items, cooking oil, toiletries, building materials and furniture. By Sibusiso Ngwenya
