Broke Zanu PF Regime Fails To Pay Pensioners Since October

HUNDREDS of senior citizens are spending days queuing at banking institutions across the country, hoping to access their November pay as the cash strapped government fails to pay.

The frail looking elderly have been camping at the banks since the 31st of November and some from the 10th of December which are the pay dates announced by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

In interviews with NewZimbabwe.com, hungry and angry senior citizens sitting and stranded at the pavement of POSB bank Causeway branch in Harare said December is almost half way through and they are not sure when they will receive their pay as no word is coming from the PSC.

“They first announced that our pay date has been moved forward to the 31st November and since then I have been coming here every day the banking officials just say hazvisati zvaita sekuru (not yet grandfather),” said one.

“I usually live in Goromonzi rural area, but now I am currently lodging at my daughter’s place in Mabvuku high density suburb but the living conditions are not good at all.”

The situation was the same at Cabs Bank’s First and Fourth street Branches in Harare.

“If they tell us the exact day, we won’t come to town everyday using the little resource that we have apa yatopera mari yacho (I no longer have bus fare),” said one Jacob Chidema.

“If they are going to give us our November pay so late, it shows that we will not get our December pay this year,” he added.

Since the beginning of this year the government has been staggering pay dates for pensioners.

On the 1st of December this year, Public Service Commission secretary, Pretty Sunguro, announced they had moved the pay date to the 10th of December but since then there has not been any communication from her office.
