Bulawayo and Harare dancers to face off in dance clash at Club 263 in Bulawayo with Bev, heading the Harare team

DANCER Beverly Sibanda will tomorrow headline the Bulawayo vs Harare dance clash that will pit over 20 groups from both cities.

The first of its kind, the dance clash at Club 263 in Bulawayo is being organised by Divine Assignments and Dancers Association of Zimbabwe (DAZ).

Bev and Apama will head the Harare contingent comprising Fearless, Unique, Expandables and the Bulawayo groups includes Digital Queens, New Age Dance Crew, Ezimnyama, Shosholoza Girlz, Sungura Masters, Khaya Arts, Ziyawa Queens, Jaiva Sexy dancers, Snippers and Mapansula.
DAZ president Hapaguti “Hapaz” Mapimhidze said the clash was to foster growth and unity within the dance industry.

“The main objective of the dance clash is for it to bring groups from the two different cities together with each showcasing their talents.

“At the end of the day each group will learn a thing or two from another,” said Hapaz.

He said there will be a similar clash for Harare in the near future.

The Bulawayo groups are upbeat with the prospect of meeting their counterparts from Harare.

Khaya Arts director Future Dube said the group was eager to meet their Harare counterparts.

“The group is well prepared and ready to interact with the artistes from Harare and most of all to show them that Bulawayo is the home for the arts,” said Dube.

Adorn Dharara of Mapansula believes the dance clash was a stepping stone for bigger things to come.

“We hope the dance fiesta will help us come together as artistes to do something big.

“This is a stepping stone for the dance industry to grow this into an annual festival that can capture the hearts and minds of the country,” said Dharara.

Ezimnyama Dance Ensemble’s director Phibion Ncube said:

“We’re prepared for the clash. We’ve been waiting for this type of clash for a long time and it has finally  come.

“It’s very good for the groups to come together and showcase their artistic creativity in dances.  We encourage such clashes to happen annually so as the dance groups get exposure.” source-chronicle
