Colombia Finds 300 Year Old San Jose Galleon, (1699-1708) Loaded With Billions Of Dollars Of Treasure
One of the greatest marine finds of the century, is, arguably Colombia discovery of a Spanish ship wreck, the SAN JOSE galleon, that went down at least 300 years ago.
The Spanish galleon was sunk by the British and went down with a massive shipment of gold and precious stones, which in some quarters of the media, hold an estimated value of at least a Billion dollars worth of treasure.
At this point in time, colombian authorities are not disclosing the final resting place of the ship.
It is envisaged that, there could eventually be disputes with respect to who has claim over the treasure as several authorities including a marine company that has spent years searching for the ship, Spain as the mother country to which the ship belonged and the UN because of the ships world heritage status.By Sibusiso Ngwenya.
