‘Cuthbert Dube Must Be Arrested For Milking (PSMAS) Dry’-Eddie Cross (MDC-T)

BULAWAYO South MP Eddie Cross (MDC-T) yesterday demanded the arrest of current and former Premier Service Medical Aid Society
(PSMAS) executives for milking the society dry and causing irreparable damage to the organisation.Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Cross said: “I am happy that President Robert Mugabe said there will be a Bill introduced to regulate medical aid societies. Recently, we heard that five PSMAS bosses were drawing $22 million and other various benefits and yet, even the Parliament budget for a year is less than that – and why are they not in prison or not being prosecuted?”

“Why is [former PSMAS chief executive officer Cuthbert] Dube bulletproof? He earned $600 000 per month, and nearly $40 million in salaries and benefits and yet the medical aid society was in $119 million arrears? This is State money and the Finance ministry pays $140 million per year to PSMAS for civil servants, and yet they are struggling because of this behaviour – I will not be satisfied until Dube is in jail,” he said.

Cross also blasted former Harare town clerk Tendai Mahachi for drawing a hefty salary of nearly $30 000 per month at the expense of service delivery.

“We cannot be competitive until we stop paying these kind of salaries. There is no reason why they cannot be adjusted downwards. Econet and NetOne have reduced theirs. I was very sad seeing the President failing to tackle the issue,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bikita West MP Munyaradzi Kereke (Zanu PF) disputed reports that banks had set aside $1 billion to fund farming activities.

“I want it recorded that this is a false statement. Farmers owe banks for the periods 2008, 2009 and 2010 and are struggling to pay that debt. For the media to publicise that banks have set aside fresh money is incorrect,” he said.

Kereke said the state of agriculture in the country was bleak with $1,7 billion required for the 2015-2016 agricultural season for both animal husbandry and cropping.

Hatfield MP Tapiwa Mashakada (MDC-T) suggested investment facilitation should be the sole responsibility of the President’s Office to force ministers to play their roles.

“What has killed the one-stop investment shop are turfs within ministers and ministries. There is a tendency of ‘turf-ism’ in the government. I would suggest reforms of investment facilitation should be done by the President’s Office so that they make sure everyone plays their role,” Mashakada said. By Veneranda Langa source-newsday
