Four Rusape Armed Robbers Sentenced To Combined 165 Years, For US$ 9 000 Theft

RUSAPE: Four armed robbers who were terrorising local residents and were later arrested have been sentenced to a combined 165 years behind bars for stealing property worth over US$ 9 000 on different occasions.

Caleb Mutoriti, Gwinyai Ziyengwa, Tatenda Matambo and Chakanetsa Mafondokoto, all from Zimunya, appeared before Rusape magistrate Livingstone Chipadza Wednesday.

Mutoriti and Ziyengwa were slapped with 40 years each for eight counts of robbery while Matambo was slapped with 50 years for 10 counts of robbery.

Mafondokoto was slapped with 35 years for seven counts of robbery.

Chipadza, however, suspended five years on each suspect on condition that they do not commit any offence involving theft, dishonesty and robbery.

Prosecutor, Tirivanhu Mutyasira, told the court that the four, on different occasions, between April 2015 and June 2015, stole property and cash terrorising residents in the process.

The gang connived to steal cell-phones, beer, recharge cards, plasma television sets, DVD, groceries and laptops. source-newzimbabwe
