Harare Man (44) Assaults And Breaks 10 year Old Boys Teeth And Ribs
A 44-YEAR-OLD Harare man yesterday appeared at the Mbare Magistrates’ Court charged with assault after allegedly beating a 10-year-old boy and breaking the minor’s teeth and ribs.
The accused, Rufaro Makoni, pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before magistrate Selly Zvenyika, who remanded him in custody to today for sentence.
The court heard that on Saturday last week, the minor child was playing at the corner of Rakajani Avenue and Madzima Road in Mbare when Makoni pounced on him.
The court heard Makoni approached the minor and accused him of stealing US$10 from his children who had been sent to sell some goods at a nearby stall.
Makoni is said to have started assaulting the boy using open hands, fists and booted feet indiscriminately.
The court further heard in a fit of rage Makoni lifted the boy by the collar and threw him onto the ground breaking his ribs
According to the State papers, the boy lost a tooth while the rest of his teeth were left shaking.
A medical report which was produced as evidence in court suggested that the minor would suffer permanent injuries as a result of the assault. By Nqobile Nkiwane
