Justice At Last As, ICC Sentences Radovan Karadzic (70), a.k.a Butcher of Srebrenica, To 40 Years
JUSTICE AT LAST AS, ICC SENTENCES RADOVAN KARADZIC (70), A.K.A BUTCHER OF SREBRENICA, TO 40 YEARS IN JAIL
Radovan Karadzic, a.k.a ‘Dr Dragan Dabic’, nicknamed the “Butcher of Srebrenica,” , aged 70, was on Thursday found guilty of genocide, and crimes against humanity. The International Criminal Court , ‘ICC’ sentenced the incarcerated Serbian Nationalist leader, to 40 years in prison on Thursday for war crimes committed during the Bosnian War from 1992 to 1995.
He was found guilty of genocide, having presided over the Srebrenica massacre. Bosnian Serb forces, under the control of Radovan Karadzic,the butcher of Srebrenica massacred over 7,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys , in what has come to be known as the worst human attrocity on European soil, ever since the second world war.
Indications are that some would have preferred to have him sentenced to life in prison , but at his age, the sentence is as good as a life sentence. To the ‘Discerning Eye’ the International Criminal Court , ‘ICC’ has proven to the world that, you cannot run all your life from the law and that no matter how long it takes, justice will catch up with you.
This is an uplifting event, particularly for despot led countries like Zimbabwe, where the people have waited for three decades for President Mugabe and his henchman, the chief architect of the gukurahundi genocide, ‘Emmerson Mnangagwa’ to face trial. 20 000 Ndebele people from Matebeleland and Midlands regions, were butchered by Mugabe’s tribalist , North Korean Trained, Fifth Brigade in the early 80’s.
