Journalist ‘Edgar Gweshe’ & 2 Activists Released From Cells After ZLHR Intervention

Photographers who were arrested on Friday for taking pictures at protected areas were on Saturday released after the intervention by lawyers for human rights from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights organization, it has been learnt.

ZLHR Communication officers Kumbirai Mafunda indicated that the three Journalist Edgar Gweshe and activists Charles Nyoni and Don Makuwaza spent the night in police custody following their arrest.

“We are happy that the legal interventions of human rights lawyer Tonderai Bhatasara and other key stakeholders have resulted in the release of freelance journalist Edgar Gweshe and activists Charles Nyoni and Don Makuwaza who endured a night in police custody after they were arrested on Friday 24 July 2015 and charged with contravening Section 5 (2) of the Protected Areas Act for allegedly failing to comply with a directive from an authorised officer not to take pictures on a protected area,” said Mafunda. Source: Byo24News
