Commuter Kombi Driver Drives 10km With Cop Hanging Onto Wipers And Bumper
In an all too familiar case of lawlessness amongst commuter omnibuses, a toyota hiace kombi commuter bus driver ‘Maxwell Subili’ (28) is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly attempting to run over a police officer at Makoni shopping centre on the 20th of December..
The kombi driver allegedly did so in abid to escape arrest by the officer for picking passengers at an undesignated spot in Chitungwiza town.
The Kadzomba Tours , kombi driver from Cherutombo in Marondera allegedly drove a distance almost 10km with the officer, Police Constable Misheck Makosa (24) holding on for dear life on to the vehicle wipers and bumper.
The unfortunate officer, Cst Makosa , witnessed the accused driver, Subili picking passengers up at an undesignated spot in the vicinity of a Marondera rank and warned the kombi driver but he was ignored.
The officer soon proceeded to stand in front of the vehicle , a Toyota Hiace and advised the driver that he was now under arrest but Subili had other ideas and allegedly drove straight at Cst Makosa in an obvious attempt to run over him.
Cst Makosa escaped being run over by swiftly jumping and clinging on to the kombi’s wipers and locking his legs on to the front bumper to stop himself from falling off whilst the vehicle was in motion.
Subili allegedly drove his kombi, with the officer hanging on for dear life for almost 10km.
Cst Makosa’s fellow officers commandeered a passing private vehicle and gave chase, and eventually the kombi driver came to a halt after he was blocked in and immediately arrested.
This is a regular lawless practice by Kombi drivers who have absolutely no regard for human life be it their passengers or the police. Police officers also , stupidly and usually after bribes, place their lives at risk by positioning themselves directly in front of the criminal’s vehicles in a bid to ensure the drivers do not escape arrest
