MNAGAGWA’S ZANU PF REGIME FORCED BY PEOPLE POWER TO REVERSE ban on kombi commuter omnibuses from entering the Harare Central Business District

The Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing has condemned a decision by the Harare City Council to ban commuter omnibuses from entering the Harare Central Business District.

The Ministry felt the decision was a hurried one done without public consultation, and as a result the Minstry has rescinded the ban on Kombis in the CBD with immediate effect, until a proper and sustainable arrangement has been drawn up for workers, travelling public, inhabitants of the Council Area and the Harare Metropolitan Province, tourists and interested parties.

This sudden change by government, overiding the Harare City Council ban on commuter omnibuses from dropping off passengers at ranks in the Central Business District came about because of the furore from both Kombis operators and passengers left with no choice but to finish the journey on foot after being dropped off at the edges of the city. The people spoke and their voices were heard and as a result the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing reverses ban on kombi commuter omnibuses from entering the CBD.
