Mnangagwa Shocked As Chamisa’s Parly Recall Of Mugabe To Answer On Address, Succeeds

MDC-T legislator Nelson Chamisa successfully moved a motion to have President Robert Mugabe recalled to Parliament and answer questions regarding his state of the nation address which was delivered on Tuesday.

Parliament Speaker backed Chamisa in a ruling that left vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa shaking his head in disbelief.

Chamisa raised the point or order after Mugabe had finished delivering his address saying that the veteran leader should come back and take questions from the floor over his speech which, uncharacteristically, lasted less than 30 minutes.

Some of the issues raised in Mugabe’s speech include claims that the country’s economy was on recovery path with tourism being the key driver of the economy.

“Mr Speaker Sir, I raise on a point of order that according to the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

“The president has to come back and answer to questions so that we may move on the same trajectory and be on the same page,” Chamisa said amid heckling from Zanu PF legislators who felt the opposition wanted to embarrass the 91- year old leader.

As Chamisa was pushing his motion, Zanu PF political commissar and local government Savior Kasukuwere together with finance minister Patrick Chinamasa objected to the move but the youthful MP refused to be stopped.

“We are not here to embarrass the president but to amplify his message and help us share his said vision.

“Instead of heckling, the (Zanu PF) members should ululate because this is an opportunity for us to interface with the president,” he insisted amid objections from Zanu PF.

Vice President Emerson Mnangagwa also tried to to block Chamisa from pushing to have Mugabe reappear before MPs.

However, Speaker of the national assembly, Jacob Mudenda, ruled that it was constitutional for Mugabe to appear back in Parliament and take questions from the MPs.

Mudenda said his office and with the Senate would liaise with the office of the president to see if the demand by the MDC was feasible.

After his ruling, delighted MDC legislators ululated while those from the ruling Zanu PF remained mum.Mnangagwa could be seen shaking his head in disbelief. source-newzimbabwe
