The deceased former prime Minister and MDC T leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s wife, Harare businesswoman Elizabeth Macheka, is the daughter of Joseph Macheka a member of ZANU PF’s central committee under deposed former President Robert Mugabe. Tsvangirai’s marriage to Elizabeth Machecka left many feeling that the marriage threatened MDC T existence through Elizabeth Macheka’s strong ties to ZANU PF, an impediment to democracy, failure to implement reforms, source of pain, suffering, torture, arrrests, murder, dissappearances and forced exiling of thousands of MDC T supporters.
 
The key concern was understandably on where Elizabeth Macheka’s loyalties were aligned to, either with Tsvangirai or her father and ZANU PF , simply one or the other.
The question now to the people is, why Tsvangirai’s mum, who at the height of family disputes at the Johannesburg hospital, was allowed to see her son while everyone else was barred.
 
When Tsvangirai’s body arrived in Zimbabwe, she declared she doesnt want her daughter in law Elizabeth Machecka or new MDC T president Nelson Chamisa around or else she would commit suicide.
 
I suggest, people should avoid throwing abuse at her, because being his mother and the person who spend most time in his final hours with him, knows much more than anyone because, Tsvangirai would have opened up to her and she could soon open up and release damaging information about the Chamisa and Macheka alliance because the two are known to be close, along with MDC T leadership scandal involving the three VPs Chamisa, Mudzuri and Khuphe saga and totally upset the whole democratic struggle if not totally split the already weakened MDC T who have lost a gallant fighter for democracy in Tsvangirai’s death.
 
Elizabeth Machecka also refused to speak in Johannesburg arguing she would only talk after Tsvangirai was discharged from hospital. While MDC T is not a family business, its fair to say, all is not well and in my view, the party needs to call for an urgent National Executive Congress where they can establish a new leadership as set out in the constitution and if Chamisa is the chosen leader, all is well because they would have done it all in a constitutional manner not lean on personal choices or other unconstitutional means of leadership.
 
If this is not urgently resolved, MDC T will always be viewed with suspicion and seen as an offshoot of Mugabe’s illegitimate regime because of failure to respect the party constitution. People are genuinely concerned that Elizabeth Macheka’s Zanu pf ties, Mnangagwa and Chiwenga’s sudden interest in Tsvangirai’s health and welfare in the eleventh hour and Macheka’s close links to Chamisa might seriously be telling the public more about Zanu pf hand in MDC T future. Zanu pf are good at this, case in point 1987 Unity accord, ZUM, baba Jukwa, Tsholotsho declaration, G40 and Lacoste, November 2017 coup and removal of Mugabe and other scams that Zanu pf has perfected to hoodwink gullible Zimbabweans. You cannot put anything past the Zanu pf crminal regime.
 
MDC T need to restore order, democracy, constitutionalism, peoples support and respect and unite the people under common leadership with no factions. It does not matter who leads MDC T, whether Chamisa, any of the other leaders, whether politician, business leader, an internal choice amongst the leaders , an MDC alliance leader or a totally new face from outside as long as they have leadership qualities, can unite a broken MDC T opposition and MDC Alliance as long as its all done as set out by the constitution.
 
Politics is a game of numbers and as long as factionalism remains, MDCT would not make up enough numbers to unseat Mnangagwa, Zanu pf stalwarts and securocrats. This is the underlying feeling amongst many Zimbabweans and it would be folly for the party to ignore the obvious by hiding behind apologist support like how Mugabe ran Zanu pf. Apologists were always the loudest and would silence the voice of reason,..here we go again!
Its fair to say that Zimbabwe leaders have paid dearly for their obviously poor choices in partners at the start, case in point Grace Mugabe in Mugabe’s time of weakness due to ill health and advanced age. The same has happened for tsvangirai in his moment of weakness due to ill health. Zimbabwe in both cases is paying dearly due to ‘bedroom coups’ created by leaders and their wives and domestic crisis.
The most confusing thing about the MDCT leadership crisis is that Tsvangirai’s step mother is the biological mother to Kenneth Manyonda who beat Tsvangirai in an election for Buhera North constituency. She is clearly someone with split allegiance to MDCT and Zanu pf because of her sons. This is exactly what we are saying about Tsvangirai’s wife Elizabeth Macheka being someone with split allegiance to MDCT and Zanu pf because her father Macheka is the Zanu pf former Mayor for Chitungwiza.
