‘Mugabe’s Zanu PF Gangsters And Thugs Buried At Zimbabwe National Heroes Acre’: MDC-T

GWERU: The MDC-T youth assembly has said the Heroes’ Acre in Harare is tainted by some Zanu PF members who are buried at the shrine yet they have a well-known record of stealing and behaviour of hooliganism.

The opposition party’s youth national spokesperson, Brian Dube said there were many deserving Zimbabweans who could have been buried at the shrine.

However, because of Zanu PF’s partisan approach in bestowing hero status, some of its members with a criminal record lie at the monument.

“We are saddened to note that we also have thieves and thugs and gangsters who have found their way into our National Heroes Shrine.

“This is shameful and has brought the institution and tag of a hero into disrepute,” Dube told journalists in Gweru on Friday, at the party’s youth wing statement on Heroes and Defence Forces Day commemorations.

The two-day holiday is celebrated on Monday and Tuesday with critics arguing that over the years it has lost its national appeal after being turned into a Zanu PF event.

In the past, President Robert Mugabe has said if opposition parties were not happy with how people are selected for burial at the national shrine they have to establish their own heroes’ acre.

“The MDC-T Youth Assembly is saddened that the definition of a hero in Zimbabwe has been distorted and contaminated by the Zanu PF mafia and gangsters,” Dube said.

“We acknowledge that we have many heroes in Zimbabwe…, we still have some of our national heroes that have not been properly acknowledged by the current regime on partisan and personal grounds and we still say to them we owe you and you still remain our heroes.”

Dube said time has come for the youths and all Zimbabweans to confront Mugabe’s regime through mass demonstrations.

He said the protests would not be for MDC-T party but every person who is suffering in the hands of Zanu PF’s misrule. newzimbabwe
