newzimbabwevision is reliably informed that ever since Zimbabwe Mining Development Cooperation (ZMDC) took over Lynx Mine in Karoi which used to be owned by a German company using the 51% share ownership laws, in 2016, employees have not been paid even though the mine is producing graphite and exporting it continuously.

Yesterday when our contacts in Karoi went to the mine to conduct investigations on the unfolding drama, they were informed that workers are angry over the ‘slave’ treatment of work for nothing by the company particularly after the Germans withdrew from the business after a misunderstanding with ZMDC.

Our investigators realised that trucks had come to collect the graphite product but it was obvious workers had locked the Lynx mine gates to stop trucks from loading and all they were demanding to know is what has happened to all the revenue generated over the last year from the regular exports as the workers are frustrated from waiting for wages which are never paid.

At least 150 workers are affected, with about 50 workers having opted for voluntary retrenchment in February 2016. However according to employees on the ground, from our investigations, they have not been paid yet and so they are just holding on to the mine houses they live in.

The newzimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa, promised to root out corruption and has given a window period for externalised money to be returned. What we have revealed in this is that the company is externalising national resources and money while not paying the workers who work hard all their lives to earn a living. The only thing that has happened so far is that Zesa shut down electricity for the mine workers houses, as if thats not enough for people who haven’t been paid.

Our investigations were triggered by information from disgruntled unpaid employees including Brian Mandizvidza at the mine. Employees and their families have been left to fend for themselves with nothing, starving and miserable over Christmas and new having actually been unpaid since 2016. There are calls for the Anti Corruption Authority (Zacc) to step in and institute immediate, ruthless investigations into the ongoing events at the mines and where the law has been broken, for heads to roll and employees to receive their right fully earned dues. We call upon anyone with more information about Lynx Mine Karoi to furnish us with detail as we continue to expose everything to Parliament , ZCC, the Anti Corruption Authority (Zacc) , interested parties and other relevant authorities.  It cannot be right that after the ZMDC used the 51% Indigenous share ownership,  to gain control of the Lynx mine in Karoi, we are engaged in unpaid slave labour while they are making millions exporting national wealth and resources to the West.
This is why people argue that it is better to be oppressed by a foreign authority but not oppressed by your own as the case here because we can bear testimony to the true meaning of ‘Black oppressors of Blacks’!
Other employees in other mines, farms and businesses facing similar injustices, please remember:
