‘PEOPLE POWER!’-Following Beitbridge Protests, The Government Has Lifted The Ban On Imports
Today can go down in history as ‘People Power’ victory as Mugabe’s Zanu PF regime was forced to lift the controversial ban on imports following protest by Beitbridge residents and business people in South Africa.
Zimbabwe’s Industry Minister Mike Bimha made the announcement on radio that the government has lifted the ban although he gave no further detail.
To the ‘Discerning Eye newzimbabwevision’ Mugabe’s government realised that the situation was now volatile, considering that the Rural Teachers Union (RTUZ), Zimbabwe Teacher’s Association, Doctors, Nurses and other civil servants had already embarked on downing tools in protest to the delayed wage allocations shifting wage dates for most civil servants into next month, even though the army had been paid.
Although the government has backed down, Mugabe’s brutal armed police and army are on full patrol in Beitbridge, on the alert for any hotspots for trouble. By Sibusiso Ngwenya.
