Poachers, Shoot, Three Elephants Dead In Chipinge South

CHIPINGE SOUTH: Three elephants were found dead with bullet wounds during an anti-poaching patrol which was carried out by police officers and Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife officials last week on Wednesday.

Chipinge District Assistant police spokesperson, Sergeant Clothing Ncube confirmed the incident, saying it took place near Chief Mahenye area.

Ncube said on September 23, a team of police officers together with members of Parks and Wildlife were on an anti-poaching patrol in Mahenye area.

The team came across three carcasses of elephant; two had their tusks removed while one had its tusks intact.

“The team examined the carcasses and observed bullet wounds on them and no used cartridges were found around the area,” said Ncube.

He said no arrests have been made so far, however investigations are being carried out “to bring the culprits to book”.

“We are appealing to anyone with information relating to the incident to report to the nearest police station,” added Ncube. source-newzimbabwe
