POLICE in the Midlands province have recovered property worth more than $42,000 from two notorious Bulawayo armed robbers. Shadreck Chiduza, 49, of O-50 Njube suburb and his accomplice Killias Maphosa, 45, of 122 Nkenyani Road, Mambo in Gweru were arrested two weeks ago and appeared before Gweru Magistrate Chibanda who remanded them in custody to June 20 for trial.

Police yesterday said Chiduza and Abednego Ndlovu, who is currently serving a 17-year sentence for robberies committed in Bulawayo, had led them to recover stolen property worth $42,500.

Chiduza is reported to have committed the robberies while in the company of his son Johannes, 24, who is currently serving a 29-year sentence at Whawha prison for an armed robbery he committed in Bulawayo.

Chiduza’s colleague, Maphosa, was shot by police in Gweru as he attempted to flee from detectives during indications and is currently hospitalised under police guard.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko said property recovered from Chiduza was stolen between 2014 and 2016.

“Chiduza has led the police to recover 23 plasma television sets, two laptops, five cellphones, one fan, two speakers, one music mixer, an amplifier and a nexus generator. He has so far cleared 69 cases of unlawful entry and theft committed in Gweru and one case of armed robbery which he committed in Kwekwe in April 2016 in the company of Garikai Mauswa and Christopher Tasiyana who are still on the run,” said Insp Goko.

“Of the 69 counts, Chiduza accounts for 40 cases which he committed in the company of Killias Maphosa while 29 of the crimes were committed in the company of his son Johannes Chiduza who is currently serving a 29-year sentence at Whawha for an armed robbery case which he committed in Bulawayo.”

He said the other suspect Ndlovu, 24, also led police to the recovery of property that includes television sets, laptops and a solar lantern.

Ndlovu allegedly committed unlawful entry and theft cases and one robbery between 2013 and 2016 in Gweru suburbs that include Riverside, Athlone, Lundi Park and Southview among others.

Insp Goko said the recovered property has a combined value of $42,500.

“A total number of 32 television sets, five laptops, five cellphones, a fan, a nexus generator, a solar lantern, two speakers, a music mixer and an amplifier have been recovered,” he said.

“We’re appealing to members of the public who were once victims of such crimes to come to CID Gweru and identify their property. We’re also appealing to anyone who might have any information about the outstanding accused persons Garikai Mauswa and Christopher Tasiyana to report at any nearest police station”.
