Repatriation Fund Raising For Murdered UK based Zimbabwean Nurse, ‘Miriam Danai Nyazema’

A CROWD funding initiative has been launched to raise funds to repatriate the remains of slain United Kingdom based Zimbabwean nurse, Miriam Danai Nyazema.

Nyazema, 35, succumbed to stab wounds on July 28 after she was reportedly stabbed by a Zimbabwean man Josphat Mutekedza who is suspected to be his boyfriend.

According to media reports, armed police were called to reports of gun shots being fired on Shawclough Way in Rochdale, at about 21:50 on Tuesday.

Nyazema was found with stab injuries and treated by paramedics, but later died in hospital.

Mutekedza, an ex-British soldier, has since appeared in court charged with murder and firearms offences.

The funding initiative, launched onGoFundMe, has so far raised £641 of the needed £10 000.

In an appeal to well-wishers, Rick Rufaro Matsokotere, Nyazema’s cousin and representative of the family said Danai was the breadwinner for her 8-year-old daughter, elderly parents and the extended family.

“She was much loved in her community and by her work colleagues,” said Matsokotere.

He said the money raised would assist in the repatriation of Nyazema’s remains for burial in Zimbabwe.

“After police have done everything they need to investigate her death, they will release her body to us and her parents have requested that we send her home to be buried among her people and for them to pay their last respects.

“This is the reason we are raising funds in this high profile case. We will also need to arrange for an immediate family member to visit the UK from Zimbabwe to put a close to all of Danai’s affairs as the named next of kin,” he said.

Matsokotere also thanked the support the family has received so far.

“We would like to thank the Manchester community and UK & US community as well as the Zimbabwean community in general for reacting with love, with sympathy and unparalleled support at Miriam’s passing. All proceeds will be sent to the family in Zimbabwe,” he said.

Nyazema had worked at Shawside nursing home in Shaw for 13 years. source-newzimbabwe
