‘State Propaganda Machinery, The Herald Newspaper, Claims RTUZ Demonstration Was A Flop’
After a violent crushing of the Rural Teachers Union Of Zimbabwe demonstration yesterday, and arrest of protest leaders, Mugabe’s Zanu PF propaganda machinery has kicked into overdrive.
The Herald a state publication also Mugabe’s Zanu PF mouthpiece, unashamedly claims that a demonstration by Richard Morgan Tsvangirai’s Movement For Democratic Change (MDC-T) activists masquerading as teachers’ representatives, flopped yesterday with less than 20 people turning out for the march and three arrested for participating in the ‘illegal protests’.
The Herald newspaper even went ahead to claim that the Apex Council, a body that represents civil servants in wages negotiations, has disowned the protest organisers , the Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (RTUZ) and the Zimbabwe Activists Alliance.
The so called ‘illegal demonstrators’ by virtue of their defiance to oppressive authority and courage to hold a protest march to Zimbabwe Parliarment House, are infact a gathering of activists, vendors and who were staging an unsanctioned demonstrationin Harare.
The protesters were set to march from Harare’s Market Square to the Zimbabwe government Ministries of Finance and Economic Development and the Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare offices to finally deliver their petition.
The Rural Teachers Union (RTUZ), as per constitutional requirements, formally advised the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in writing. ZRP ignored the advise and gave no response, while the RTUZ proceeded to march as stated in their advance notice to police.
The Herald newspaper claims that bona fide civil servants representatives have disowned the union , alleging that these were clearly political activists out to capitalise on the chaos.
The Herald alleges that Zimbabwe’s civil servants will, today convene under the Apex Council umbrella, and arrange to meet Mugabe’s Zanu PF regime negotiators tomorrow.
The Herald newspaper, is adamant that protesters are composed of political opposition seeking to cause havoc nation wide and promote their regime change agenda hence the trade unions involvement.
The violence unleashed by the partisan police force riot team, upon protesters who were assaulted while leaders were arrested, shows the extent to which the regime will go to, in order to protect Mugabe’s oppressive Zanu PF regime, which has failed to pay civil service wages for December 2015 and their bonuses.
Anyone who dares to defy oppressive authority by the despot regime, will immediately be assaulted, arrested and labelled as someone seeking regime change. The state is not accommodating to any attempts to highlight their failures. By Sibusiso Ngwenya
