A SECURITY guard walked into a police station in Tsholotsho and allegedly assaulted a police officer before stabbing him with a knife in the head for reprimanding him for allegedly sending him offensive text messages.

Nqobile Ndlovu (39) of Nkunzi Line who is employed by a Bulawayo company as a security guard, appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Joseph Mabeza facing a charge of attempted murder.

He was not asked to plead to the charges and was remanded in custody to January 5 pending trial.

Prosecuting, Mr Tinashe Dzipe, said on September 10 this year shortly after 1PM, Ndlovu went to Sipepa Police Camp in the company of his younger brother who was a complainant in an assault case.

The court heard that on arrival at the police camp, the complainant, Constable Makhosini Sibanda asked Ndlovu to get inside the police station.

The police officer wanted to reprimand Ndlovu for insulting him using text messages the previous day.

“The complainant had asked the accused person to enter the charge office so that he could warn him on the consequences of sending offensive text messages,” said Mr Dzipe.

The court heard that Ndlovu got angry and refused to enter the charge office.

Ndlovu who was armed with a knife, allegedly stabbed Const Sibanda several times in the head and he collapsed and bled profusely.

“The accused person also head-butted the complainant several times in the face and he sustained severe injuries. He also struck the police officer with a knobkerrie,” said Mr Dzipe.

Sibanda was rescued by other police officers who managed to apprehend Ndlovu leading to his arrest.
