Tsvangirai, Mujuru, Mutasa, Biti and other opposition leaders flee for teargassed to stop them addressing protesters
Zimbabwe’s crisis, yesterday reached a boiling point, across the capital, Harare city which could only be likened to a third world war zone after the Zanu PF brutal riot police instigated violence in contravention of a court ruling which reversed a last minute ban on the protest march and instead cleared the National Electoral Reform Agenda (Nera) protest.
The Nera protest encompassed at least 18 opposition parties which included Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC-T, Joyce Mujuru’s Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF), Welshman Ncube‘s MDC, Tendai Biti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Elton Mangoma’s Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe, Simba Makoni’s Mavambo/Kusile/Dawn, Jacob Ngarivhume’s Transform Zimbabwe, Freedom Front, Zanu Ndonga, ADP, PDZ, Dare, ZimFirst, Zunde and FreeZim Congress
As soon as news broke out that the courts had cleared the protests, Zimbabweans flocked to the streets and police instantly fought running battles with protesters who blocked roads with burning tyres and vehicle wrecks sealing off areas of the capital city ripping off Robert Mugabe Road signposts and even placing one beside a dead puppy.
There were skirmishes along Chinhoyi Street between Zanu PF youths manning vending stalls at Copacabana bus terminus and protesters who had ordered them to shut down their business stands, set the vending stalls and bales of clothing on fire, while the brutal riot police force used water cannons to break up protesters .
Riot police did not care who they attacked during the protests. In fact an elderly lady from the Zimbabwean generation which at a time when it mattered the most, stood through thick and thin beside a then ‘hero’ now turned villain, the despot Robert Mugabe. She would have cooked meals and fed , clothed, sheltered war veterans, and even protected them from Ian Smith’s Rhodesian forces never stopping to think about her own welfare and safety.
She along with her daughters would most probably have been raped or sexually abused in order to satisfy the war veterans deviant sexual appetites. At independence when Mugabe came to power 18 April 1980 she thought it was all over ,…how wrong she was! Today she can tell everyone for 36 years under Mugabe the people have faced a debilitating economy, now with no SERVICE DELIVERY in education, health care, employment, transport, and housing . She can bear witness to how much suffering she has endured under Mugabe, Zuma family, Zanu PF stalwarts and securocrats.
Sitting back and allowing fellow citizens to be stripped of all dignity, publicly humiliated, beaten, kicked and reduced to sort bags is the lowest we can ever reduce ourselves to! Patson Dzamara, the brother to the missing activist cum journalist Itai Dzamara, who was abducted in March 2015 by Mugabe’s CIO operatives, saved the elderly lady from continued assault by the ruthless police, but was bashed with an AK47 rifle butt for his bravery by the heartless police force. care, employment, transport, and housing .
The poor elderly woman is, to all Zimbabweans representative of a parent, a mother, a woman, the girl child, all in one, brutalised by the state in full view of the people. We have photographic evidence of Zanu PF a.k.a police brutality. To the ‘Discerning eye, newzimbabwevision, it is obvious why just less than a month ago, Zanu PF MPs who are in the majority in parliarment with a total of over 200 in parliarment walked out when opposition wanted to hold a debate on police brutality. By walking out, they scuppered any attempt to create greater public awareness, acknowledge Zanu PF-police brutality and make the state accountable for acts of police brutality , bring in legislation that would protect the public from police brutality or violence by holding a parliarmentary debate.
As soon as the Zanu PF MP’s walked out, only 6 Zanu PF MPs were left and there was no quorum meaning that the issue could not be debated. Less than two weeks later, the nation is witnessing further acts of police violence, which even Didymus Mutasa a former Zanu PF stalwart now aligned to fired vice president Joyce Mujuru;s ZimPeopleFirst, has expressed shock about. MDC T lost the power to do anything much by withdrawing MDC T MPs from parliarment as they effectively gave away seats, hence majority and power to Zanu PF, set the people back and destroyed any leverage that w ever had over Zanu PF with that simple act.
If its ok to beat up an elderly woman with baton sticks and kick her with steel toe capped boots, I certainly would not like to be around when 92 year old Mugabe is dragged from state house by members of the public but, ten again all dictators go out the hard way, like a rat, on all fours and begging for mercy as people suddenly unleash all pent up hostilities built up over the years,..why worry, Zimbabweans are happy,..I think!
The brutal police force went on to teargas opposition political party leaders including , PDP leader Tendai Biti , Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume, MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai, and ZimPF’s Joice Mujuru, and former Presidential Affairs minister Didymus Mutasa who all had to flee from Harare Civic Grounds for safety after their vehicle convoy was served with a ‘generous’ volley of tear-gas to stop them addressing protesters.
The former Zanu PF Presidential Affairs minister Didymus Mutasa, who convened Nera claimed that he was absolutely shocked by the level of violence displayed by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) against the people of Zimbabwe.
What he alleged, does make sense, but to the ‘Discerning eye newzimbabwevision’ the former Zanu PF stalwart Didymus Mutasa’s tears are crocodile tears, as he never saw any problem with police violence while on the Zanu PF looting gravy train, but now that Mugabe dismissed him from Zanu PF and he has lost his foot hold on the looting train, he cries foul,…wake up Zimbabwe! .
Mutasa went as far as alleging that yesterday he personally witnessed, the Zimbabwe State breaking its own laws and the State instigating violence through attacking people using teargas, water cannons and assaulting them. Mutasa said this would not force the people to backdown but rather galvanise the protests as next Friday has been earmarked for similar protets in Harare, adding, if that is thwarted again by the regime, then the peoples capacity to protest would actually be magnified.
Mutasa issued this announcement to journalists in the company of ZimFirst Joyce Mujuru Elias Mudzuri and MDC T Nelson Chamisa, Transform Zimbabwe Jacob Ngarivhume, ZimPF’s Rugare Gumbo and other opposition figures, claiming that Zimbabweans are now tired of president Robert Mugabe’s rule and protests will continue Mugabe falls.
Mutasa notified the gathered journalists that they would table their issues with Sadc and the African Union. Again to the ‘Discerning eye, newzimbabwevision, in theory Mutasa may have a good plan but his record is one whose performance needs upgrading. Remember just about a year ago when Mugabe dismissed him, he cried foul and went to South Africa, threatening to engage international organisations such as Sadc and AU to resolve the issue of his dismissal from Zanu PF,…hmmmn,. zero!.where is he now? I only hope he now coordinates a united, powerful, credible alliance capable of implementing necessary electoral reforms, hold free, fair and peaceful elections and powerful enough to unseat Mugabe and his Zanu PF in the 2018 ballot.
