Unlicensed Kombi Driver (35) Who Knocked Down And Killed A Child, Appears In Court

A 35-YEAR-OLD Harare man has been brought before the courts on charges of driving a commuter omnibus without a licence and knocking to death a child in Kuwadzana.

Tafadzwa Mazorodze pleaded guilty to the culpable homicide charge and driving without a licence when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Stanford Mambanje yesterday.

Magistrate Mambanje postponed the case to today for sentencing.

The court heard that on September 27, Mazorodze was driving a Toyota Hiace along an unnamed road in Kuwadzana 7 when he failed to negotiate his way past the child who was playing with others by the roadside.

The State alleges that the minor sustained heard injuries and multiple fractures as a result of the accident. The minor was taken to Harare Central Hospital where she died the following day.

A post-mortem was conducted by medical practitioners and the report was produced in court as evidence. Persy Mugauri appeared for the State.source-newsday
