‘Violence And Thuggery Are Zanu PF’s Evil Political DNA,-MDC T

THE opposition MDC-T has consoled the families of two Zanu PF members who died Saturday in a gruesome murders which were blamed on factionalism in the ruling party.

The MDC however, said the tragedy confirms that Zanu PF is not only “demonic” but a violent and thuggish political movement.

Newly elected Zanu PF Chaminuka (Chitungwiza) district youth vice chairperson, Lloyd Jambawu, 31, and youth political commissar, Marko Masenda, 37, were axed to death by fellow party activist Proud Mupambwa.

The deceased reportedly belonged to the party’s new G-40 faction which emerged after last December’s “elective” congress which witnessed the ouster of several senior members of the party including former vice President Joice Mujuru on allegations of plotting to topple President Robert Mugabe.

G-40 is said to be opposed to vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa taking over from the 91-year-old President Robert Mugabe.

Police and Zanu PF officials denied the killings were politically motivated.

Sources however, said tragedy was linked to anger with a restructuring exercise that was carried out in local party structures last Friday.

MDC-T national spokesperson Obert Gutu said Sunday that although they are “very sorry” for the loss of lives in Chitungwiza, the incident vindicates their position that Zanu PF is demonic.

“This very sad and gruesome incident shows that factional fighting has spiraled out of control in this faction – ridden and deeply divided political party,” Gutu told NewZimbabwe.com.

“This very tragic incident also vindicates the MDC-T position that violence and thuggery are essential components of the Zanu PF political DNA.”

Police said the suspected killer, Proud Mupambwa, committed suicide in their holding cells.

News filtered through Monday morning that the Zanu PF Chitungwiza district official had taken his life.

Police spokesperson, Charity Charamba, said Mupambwa had shown “suicidal tendencies” prior to the killings.

“Circumstances are that after being arrested, the accused was put in a cell at St Mary’s Police Station where he violently injured himself and was taken to Chitungwiza General Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

“On being re-detained, Proud Mupambwa revealed that he was thirsty and requested for maheu (which was brought by his wife),” Charamba said in a statement source-newzimbabwe
