Woman (68) Dies And Girl (4) Is Wounded Following Attack By Wounded Buffalo

A BUFFALO that killed a woman in Tsholotsho had likely been wounded by a poacher first, the state wildlife authority said on Saturday.

Olivia Ndlovu, 68, was attacked by the buffalo Monday as she tried to bring in her cattle, according to a statement from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority.

She died in hospital on Wednesday, before she had received any treatment for the broken arm, leg and ribs she sustained during the attack.

Wounded buffaloes are among the most dangerous animals in the world. The Cape buffalo, which is present in Zimbabwe, is known as the “widow-maker” because of its fearsome reputation.

The buffalo was killed by rangers on Wednesday – but not before it had time to attack and injure a 4-year-old girl. She is currently in hospital with a fractured leg in Tsholotsho.

The parks authority’s spokesperson Caroline Washaya-Moyo said the buffalo had spear wounds “hence the violent behaviour.” source newzimbabwe
