ZIMBABWE SHUTS DOWN INTERNET TO SILENCE Deadly Protest by Zimbabweans Over the Economic Crisis.

Internet has been jammed in Zimbabwe as the national shutdown enters second day across the urban areas – a move seen as a desperate measure by the government to deal with the deadly protest.
 
Social media such as Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp have largely been disabled.
 
There are reports suggesting that the army and the police are targeting residents in a door-to-door crackdown.
 
Businesses and schools have shut down while public transport is grounded in most parts of the country despite government assurances that security would be provided.
 
Zimbabwean Human Rights Lawyer Doug Coltart tweeted on Tuesday, ” Receiving a lot of disturbing reports that there is a widespread military operation in Harare’s townships (especially DZ and Chitungwiza) — soldiers are beating people up, going door to door, kicking down doors, dragging people out of their homes. #shutdownZimbabwe .”
 
Former Information Minister Prof Jonathan Moyo has said ”the internet shutdown is unconstitutional”.
 
There are fears that five people may have been killed during the protests but with social media blackout, it has become difficult for the media to get information from Zimbabwe.
 
Zimbabweans took to the street after the government announced a 150% percent increase in the price of petrol and diesel making fuel the most expensive in the world. All Africa
