Zimbabwe’s Police’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is calling for members of the public to surrender all firearms whether lawfully or illegally in their possession to police stations nation wide, allegedly for verification

In a surprising move, the Zimbabwe’s Police’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is calling for members of the public to surrender all firearms whether lawfully or illegally in their possession to police stations nation wide, allegedly for verification.

A weapons audit is a good move and instills discipline and accountability as long as the government is transparent in why the exercise is being conducted so close to elections in which the militarised state is due to hold elections which the people know will be rigged by Mnangagwa, Zanu pf stalwarts and securocrats.

This is a regime in panic mode over the fact that the people of Zimbabwe have now woken up to their shenanigans and are not going to accept any obvious election rigging, even more so after the alleged threats by MDC-T which reportedly has once again shown its propensity for violence after party leader and MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa reportedly threatened to unleash violence if they lose the forthcoming 2018 harmonised elections at a rally at Jerera Growth point in Zaka, on Saturday, where he allegedly warned that the MDC T party would use violent means to grab political power if they lose the polls.

The CID acting spokesperson Detective Assistant Inspector Portia Chinho said the verification exercise is due to the fact that some licenced holders are no longer in the same position as they were when they applied for the firearms.

Its all well and good if the exercise is done in a professional manner, not to instill fear into members of the public and prevent the possibility of the threatened spontaneous violence from opposition if the opposition lose the election.

No ones wants to live in adangerous society with guns all over the place, but it is disconcerting that all these years, it was ok for Zanu pf militia to be armed, yet now, the Mnangagwa, Zanu pf stalwarts and securocrats regime, are unsettled by the fact that the public will not stand for any more stolen ballot, and as allegedly warned by the MDC T leader, the MDC T party would use violent means to grab political power if they lose the polls,..Chillling!

Lets hope we make it through the forth coming elections peacefully. The ballot should be the people’s voice,..no to violence by anyone, whether opposition or ruling party,..wake up Zimbabwe,..we want peace!

The biggest mistake, that Zimbabweans can make is to attemt to unleash violence upon such aruthless regime, who are guilty of 38 years of crime against humanity including gukurahundi, murambatsvina, chiadzwa, white farmer evictions, 2008 election violence and other murders. These are blood thirsty killers, who will readily apply emergency powers, curfews and restrict movement and control the public to instill oder,…don’t dare! By Sibusiso Ngwenya
