Zimbabwe’s Teachers Unions To Hold Protests On 4th January 2016

The Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe RTUZ in conjunction with Zimbabwe Activist Alliance (ZAA), Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) and progresive citizens have announced that they will be having a Demonstration on the 4th of January 2016 in Harare.

RTUZ reportedly  submitted a notification letter to the Police Internal Security lntelligence (PISI) department of ZRP Harare District on 31 December 2015. The letter was received by one officer who calls himself Jack Jackson and he acknowledged receipt of the letter satisfying the POSA requirement of notifying the police.

Other teachers Unions like PTUZ and ZIMTA have been invited to join in the march. The objectives of the demonstration are-: to express our displeasure at the failure of government to pay salaries and bonus of Civil Servants, to demand immediate payment of salaries and bonus, to condemn and reject the 7. 5% pension deduction on our meager salaries, to lobby government to restore the dignity of Civil Servants and to show solidarity with Health workers who are on strike and demand the payment of their salaries to avert loss of life.

Demonstration will start at 9:30am at Market square.

Mandela—4th Street—Petition Ministry of Finance at New government complex —Petition Ministry of Public Service Kaguvi building,” reads the announcement. “The demonstration will mark the launch of a sustained campaign for restoration of dignity in work.All civil servants, workers, vendors, students & ordinary Zimbabweans are urged to participate in this legal demonstration.” By Stephen Jakes bulawayo24.com
