In line with transparency, and as a demonstration of how serious the President Emmerson Mnangagwa takes the shootings, Mnangagwa has arranged a team of foreign members who will stay in Harare and be sworn in next week on his return from China, to hold a commission of inquiry along with locals, into the violence which led to six people being shot dead by the military on 1 August 2018..

The commission of enquiry is made up of foreign members, the former South African President Kgalema Motlanthe, UK based Queen’s Counsel Rodney Dixon, former Commonwealth Secretary General and Nigerian national Chief Emeka Anyaouku, former Tanzania Defence Forces Chief General Davis Mwamunyange, UZ Dean of Political Science Professor Charity Manyeruke, UZ Dean of Law and NCA leader Professor Lovemore Madhuku and President of the Law Society of Zimbabwe Mrs Vimbai Nyemba.
According to Mnangagwa, the role of the commission is to identify those responsible and their leaders, why they did so and the methods used in the protests, then look into the role of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, why the military stepped in to give a back up in the maintenance of law and order, along with determining whether the level of force employed was appropriate to the circumstances such as threats posed to public safety, law and order, within a period of three months from the date of swearing in.
