Commissioner General Chihuri Warns Senior Police Officers To Guard Against Abusing Powers.
Commissioner General Chihuri was speaking at Morris Depot in Harare at a rank conferment ceremony for recently promoted superintendents.
86 police officers comprising 67 males and 19 females who were recently promoted to the ranks of superintendents have been conferred with ranks at a ceremony held at Morris Depot.
Commissioner General Chihuri said responsible police officers must always be accountable and professional in the discharge of their duties.
“Allow me at this point to say that the exercise of these powers has a sting in the tail. Abuse of these powers is frowned upon by the law and the society in general,” he said.
Some of the promoted officers assured the nation they will continue to fight crime in line with the organisation’s mandate.
Officers of the rank of Superintendent are empowered by the law to take roles of trial officer and are justices of peace in terms of the Justices of Peace and Commissioners of Oath Act. Source: zbc
