NATIONAL AIDS COUNCIL (NAC) says sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are on the rise in Bulawayo
The first quarter of the year 2017 saw at least 1 396 new STI infections in women and 1 098 in men. This proved to be a rise in new female STI cases from 993 in 2016 to 1 396 in 2017 and a fall for men of 1 123 in 2016 down to 1 098 in 2017.
It is said that the young age group of ages 24-49is mainly responsible for new infections -1 573 cases having contributed 701 infections to the overall total , with 101 of the infections testing HIV positive. Sibusiso Ngwenya
