NASA WILL ALLOW space tourists to visit the International Space Station ISS from 2020 –US$50million (£39million) per trip.

The ISS was built up using several pieces, brought by astronauts up , separately on rockets and then assembled in space together from 1998 to 2000.
Since the year 2000, people have lived on the ISS which is 250 miles above Earth and orbits around the planet just like a satellite.
The ISS which has two bathrooms, five bedrooms, a gym and several science labs, will cost an average of £27,500 a night stay for the space tourists who can afford the trip.
The bulk of the cost goes to the spaceflight for the space tourists. Trransport for space tourists will be provided for by Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Boeing who are currently developing capsules that can transport tourists to the ISS.
All along, private visitors to the space station have not been allowed to the ISS which, cost US taxpayers a total of £785million since it was launched , however now Nasa needs funding to cover the cost of its plan to put a man and woman on the Moon by the year 2024, hence the decision to open to space tourism.
The confirmation by Nasa that it would be “opening the International Space Station for commercial business” will allow private companies to take “private astronauts” on space tours for periods of up to 30 day to the ISS .
According to NASA, the agency can accommodate up to a maximum of two short-duration private astronaut privately funded missions annually to the International Space Station (ISS).
INFORMATION about the International Space Station ISS
The ISS, was built up with many countries working together to build it . It is a large space craft which orbits Earth and accomodates astronauts who go there on scientific missionsThe cost of running the ISS doesnt come cheap, for example , the regenerative life support and toilet costs US$11,250 (£8,800) per astronaut daily, while general supplies such as food and air cost an average of US$22,500 (£17,500) per astronaut per day.
Space tourists will allow Nasa to get approximately US$35,000 (£27,000) per night from a private astronaut on board the ISS.
Space tourism is not about having the money only, but tourists will also need to pass Nasa’s intensive health checks and training regime. Sibusiso Ngwenya
