REBECCA MUNKOMBWE (11) GRADE 6 Hwange Town pupil jumbed into a stream and wrestled a crocodile before gouging its eyes and rescuing her friend Latoya Muwani (9) who was beeing draggged by the reptile.

Rebecca Munkombwe, had just stepped out of the stream, when she was alerted by screams for help coming from her friend Latoya who was screaming in pain that something was biting and pulling her under, struggling to stay above the water surface.

Where most adult males would have not have hesitated at all but run fast in the opposite direction allegedly to alert others and call for assistance, brave heroine Rebecca Munkombwe (11) without second thought jumpd back into the stream in Sinderela Villageto help her friend, where she realised Latoya was being dragged away by a crocodile, which had gripped her friend on the hand and leg.

Rebecca still held her ground and sat astride the crocodile and started gouging the reptile’s eyes and beating it with her bare hands until the beast released its grip on Latoya, at which point Rebecca then helped Latoya to the banks where the other children pulled them out of the water.

Latoya is hositalised at St Patrick’s Hospital with minor injuries and not fractures. Paul Ngwenya
