General Chiwenga the hero of a newzimbabwevision is suing Professor Moyo US$5 million for defamation in alleging that Gen Chiwenga had not earned his doctorate degree at the University of KwaZulu Natal.
Professor Jonathan Moyo is being sued for US$5million in a defamation lawsuit by the hero of our liberation from Mugabe’s despot rule, Gen Chiwenga.
Chiwenga’s defamation lawsuit relates to a press statement by Prof Moyo in July 2017, in which Moyo insinuated that Chiwenga had not earned his doctorate degree at the University of KwaZulu Natal.
He allegedly said that someone else wrote the the thesis on his behalf for the Doctrate, utterances published across various media platforms, giving the impression that the ZDF Commander is a dishonest individual who cheated to achieve a PhD qualification.
His statement partly read as follows “Finally, I’m happy that Chiwenga wants pre and post-independence disclosures about who was who, who did what and so forth. That’s good. Meanwhile, I take that to mean he wants the disclosure of who contributed what to his doctorate and who really wrote his KZN PhD. Again, the Shona wisdom that kunyarara kurinani pane kutaura, applies. #Handeitione.”
The statement is said to be highly defamatory of the General and he is fully entitled to the claimed damages as Moyo’s words were wrongful and Jonathan only wanted to tarnish the general’s good name.
Accordingly Moyo’s utterances insinuated that the General lacks integrity, is dishonesty, deceitful, and fraudulentover the alleged manner that he attained a post-graduate doctorate
from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, in other words he plagiarised and violated the research methods at the university, which is deemed an act of misconduct.
Gen Chiwenga, allegedly suffered severe damage to his reputation and moral standing hence he is claiming US$5 million plus interest and seeking an order for costs on a punitive scale against Prof Moyo.
Moyo’s press statements allegedly appeared in the Herald, Chronicle, newzimbabwe.com, Zimeye and various social media platforms, daily, weekly newspapers and other media platforms. Professor Jonathan Moyo who has been under arrest by the military since the ‘coup’ is yet to respond to this development, though he is now on a much weaker footing after the fall of Zimbabwe’s former President Robert Mugabe and wife then First Lady Grace Mugabe.
I can only assume that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has a lot he holds that will cost Moyo after the 70 minute video presentation by jonathan Moyo at the Zanu pf polit buro, which triggered a chain of events including the dismissal of then Vice President Mnangagwa and self exile in South Africa.
