Raymond Matimba, a Manchester resident and former Mt St Maries(Wedza) student killed fighting while for ISIS
Raymond Matimba, a Manchester resident and former Mt St Maries(Wedza) student is believed to have been a key recruiter for the Islamic State(ISIS) in UK.
His Zimbabwe family has since confirmed that the 29 year old Ray Matimba(Abu Qaqa Al-Britani Afro) from Manchester, England, joined jihadists ISIS in 2014.
Matimba is linked to an Islamic State cell which operates in Manchester and under investigation for the Manchester Arena suicide bombing.Raymond Matimba’s family has confirmed that he went to Wedza High school.Matimba it turns out was a Christian growing up and was later radicalised into Islam by marriage through his Turkish wife who is also Muslim.
Raymond was reportedly killed in a US drone attack while fighting in Syria.
The family said he kept close contact through text messages before his death.His story might be news to many Zimbabweans but his name had been doing rounds in British tabloids and online forums after his compatriots identified him.
One writer said: It’s heart breaking to read in the British newspapers that there is a Zimbabwean guy linked to Jihadists recruiting people to go and fight in Syria .
