Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) chairperson, Rita Makarau declared says all cops and electoral officials posted can not vote

In June 2017 the Zanu Pf partisan Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) chairperson, Rita Makarau declared that all police officers and electoral officials who are posted away from their home polling stations during the voting exercise can not vote.

The Election Resource Centre (ERC) an independant elections monitoring body, claims the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec)’s proposal to suspend or deny electoral officials and police officers of their voting rights is a breach of Zimbabwe’s Electoral Act as there will be no special voting , postal votes or early voting exercises

To the DISCERNING eye newzimbabwevision it is obvious that the ruling Mugabe and his Zanu pf are aware that the police force are disgrunted and tired of continuous false promises.

Zanu pf will therefore deploy officers who are seen as supporters of opposition, well away from their wards so that they cannot exercise their vote.
The main reason why they will be further denied the right to vote wherever they are stationed is that it will be impossible for the Zanu Pf regime to check each officers vote as they cast their ballots. They would ordinarily vote in their own stations in the presence of their senior officers checking each ballot to ensure that they vote correctly for Zanu pf.

Because the next election exercise is one where there will be thorough monitoring to stop rigging, there will be no electoral voting for the officers, an area again that Zanu pf have always tampered with in their election rigging. Postal votes would also open up a can of worms as the diaspora would be able to challenge authorities on why the diaspora is denied the right to have postal votes. …Interesting! By Sibusiso Ngwenya
