INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT (ICC ) Chief prosecutor in the Hague, is Gambian lawyer ICC Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda.

The Rome Statute is an international treaty that has been ratified by 122 countries. It is known that several countries have not ratified the Rome statute. These include at least half of African nations, along with almost all the Middle Eastern nations and the majority of central and far-east Asian nations , US, Russia and China who are , three of the five permanent members of the UN security council and hold the power to veto UN referrals to the court.
 
The ICC Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda is Gambian lawyer whose aims is to achieve what other courts can not do, which is to serve justice upon war criminals and genocidal despots.
 
The institution was established with a primary aim of terminating impunity for war criminals and genocidal tyrants globally, who ordinarily would not face justice as they place themselves above the law in their states and untouchable. A total of 122 countries have ratified the Rome Statute which is the ICC founding statute.
 
The appointment of an African, Gambian lawyer ICC Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda (56) has indicated that African states may feel that ICC is biased against African leaders however we must realise that the victims , are Africans, and the ICC is giving them justice.
