The Border Efficiency and Management Systems (BEAMS), from Zimbabwe and South Africa, have adopted a scheme where vehicles are in separate lanes which include, bus lanes, private vehicles lanes, commercial vehicles lane, pedestrians, tourists, transit and returning residents.
 
The main delay once travellers have completed immigration checks on the Zimbabwean side of the border, is having to wait for their various vehicles still stuck in the queue on the South African border in the long and winding vehicles queues.
 
Currently immigration clearing is said to average 25 000 people per day, over the festive season since 7 December 2017. by Sibusiso Ngwenya
