This morning about 11 am, the Morandi bridge part of the main highway connecting Italy with France collapsed in the Italian port city of Genoa during a sudden, violent storm, plunging several vehicles down 45 meters-approximately 150 feet into a pile of rubble. at the bottom.
 
Italy’d emergency services say at least 35 people were killed, although the search and rescue continues in the search for people who are alive in the rubble.
 
The section of the Morandi Bridge which collapsed today, was over an over industrial zone, and left a massive volume of twisted steel and concrete on the warehouses below.
 
According to reports so far, all victims were in vehicles that fell from the collapsing bridge, over a motorway which links Italy to France, and northern cities like Milan to the beaches of Liguria.
 
Italy’s summer holiday starts on Wednesday, meaning this collapse occured on the eve of the start of the summer holiday.
