World Health Organisation (WHO), Warns, Africa, There Are 7,000 Suspected Cases Of Zika In Cape Verde

The World Health Organisation WHO , is warning of a pending health crisis after, the mosquito borne Zika virus strain that has wreaked havoc in Brazil, generally causing  neurological disorders including babies being born with abnormally small brains or microcephaly was  detected in Africa.

This detection of the  Zika Virus circulating in Cape Verde, off the north west coast of Africa is a  first in Africa.

Zika virus is generally spread through mosquito bites and sexual transmission, so African nations are being alerted to create awareness amongst their people, particularly pregnant women,  about the circulating Asian strain of the Zika virus which has already affected Brazil.

There are currently 7,000 suspected cases of the Zika virus which have already been detected in Cape Verde. By Sibusiso Ngwenya
