‘We Don’t Recognise Or respect The Schools Pledge’-Zimbabwe Teachers Association (Zimta)
The Zimbabwe Teacher’s Union (Zimta) has declared that, they neither recognise nor respect the national pledge to be adopted by all schools according to Mugabe’s Zanu PF regime.
Controversy has arisen from the fact that, the teaching body argues that they were never consulted about this unconstitutional ‘political indoctrination’ which is to be recited by pupils and students in all schools across Zimbabwe.
HERE IS THE PLEDGE TO BE RECITED IN SCHOOLS:
Before lessons, pupils will recite the following pledge: “Almighty God, in whose hands our future lies, I salute the national flag. Respecting the brave fathers and mothers who lost lives in the Chimurenga/Umvukela.”We are proud inheritors of the richness of our natural resources. We are proud creators and participants in our vibrant traditions and cultures. So I commit to honesty and the dignity of hard work.” By Sibusiso Ngwenya
