‘Harare Man Assaults His 100 Yr Old Grandmother For Alleging She ‘Bewitched Him’

A Harare man stands accused of assaulting his 100-year-old grandmother and his mother claiming they are bewitching him so that he does not get married.

In her application filed at the Harare Civil Court last week, Tina Chitenje is seeking a protection order against her son Nelson Nyamadzawo whom she accused of being violent towards her and her 100-year-old mother.

The matter was supposed to appear in court yesterday before magistrate Ms Audrey Tarugarira, but was struck off the roll as both parties were in default.

“He is in the habit of assaulting me and my mother accusing us of bewitching him so that he does not get married,” reads part of Chitenje’s application.

Chitenje said Nyamadzawo performs his violent acts each time he comes home drunk.

“He has lost respect for me as his mother and also to his grandmother.

“He also verbally abuses us,” read the application.

Chitenje said she wanted the court to evict Nyamadzawo from her house saying he was old enough to take care of himself.

“I want him to move out of my house because I want to take care of my aged mother peacefully,” Chitenje’s application says.source-herald
