Hwange, Jambezi Man, Zondani Ncube, )(32, Repeatedly Rapes Own Grandma,(95)

HWANGE: A man from Jambezi in Hwange district has been dragged to court for allegedly raping his grandmother, aged 95, on three occasions.

The alleged rape of the nonagenarian took place at her homestead between June 1 and July 5 this year.

Zondani Ncube, 32, of Ndimakule Village in Mbizha area of Jambezi initially pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape when he appeared before Hwange regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga on Thursday.

Ncube shocked the court when he later admitted to sleeping with his granny and claimed the old woman solicited for sex from him and only reported a case of rape after he skipped a day without sleeping with her.

“I admit having sex with my grandmother but she is the one who invited me for sex.

“We started sleeping together last year and she only made a report this year after becoming jealous that I skipped going to her bedroom when we were supposed to have sex,” claimed Ncube in court.

The magistrate remanded him in custody to Friday for judgment.

The elderly woman’s young sister, who cannot be named to protect the victim, testified that her sister opened up to her two weeks ago.

“My sister narrated her ordeal when she visited my homestead recently.

“One wonders how such a young man could find an old woman who has lost sexual appetite sexually attractive,” she said sending the gallery into laughter.

Prosecutor Tawanda Sigauke said Ncube forcibly had sex with his grandmother.

“Sometime during the month of June the accused proceeded to the complainant’s homestead during the night and opened the door to her bedroom hut.

“He had sex with her without her consent,” said Sigauke.

He added: “The accused went to the homestead for the second time in the same month and raped her.”

The court heard that sometime early this month the accused went to his grandmother’s place and allegedly dragged her to a nearby bush where he raped her again.

Ncube allegedly dumped his grandmother in the bush and she staggered home at night.

On July 8, the court heard, Ncube went again to his victim’s homestead at 9pm and promised to bring her some money.

Fearing that she was going be sexually abused again, the old woman is said to have deserted her homestead soon after her grandson left and went to her young sister’s place where she spent the night.

In the morning, she narrated her ordeal to her sister and the village head Aleck Nyoni who then reported the matter to the police leading to Ncube’s arrest.

The elderly woman was referred to Victoria Falls General Hospital for a medical check-up. source-newzimbabwe
